San Juan Islands Singing Pink Scallops and Weekend Specialties 11.30.17 November 29 2017 Posted in

Singing Pink Scallops used to be all the rage in upscale restaurants in the 80’s and 90’s until regulation changes made harvesting so difficult they all but disappeared from people’s plates.  Jones Family Farms located in the San Juan Islands is out to change that by hand harvesting these gems off the sea floor between the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands.  These singing pink scallops, named after the way they swim through the water, are less aggressively sweet than East Coast bay scallops and are instead balanced by a pleasant, oyster-like brininess as well as a nutty flavor usually associated with clams.  Stop by to try some out!
